Treatment Focus
Img10.png

While at Timpview RTC each youth will fully disclose a history of all inappropriate behavior, increasing their emotional awareness in relation to their personal experiences, identified all factors relating to inappropriate behavior, and develop more appropriate ways to cope.   Additionally, they will gain an improved work ethic, developed better interpersonal relationship skills and be better prepared for independent life. The treatment focus includes:

Healing

Each youth is encouraged to examine the beliefs, feelings, and experiences that resulted in your problematic behavior, and, secondly, to resolve issues so that therapy can build on a solid foundation.

Self-awareness

Each youth will enhance their ability to discuss and monitor the thought, feelings, and behaviors that contributed to a pattern of harmful behaviors.  Bringing issues to light increases their ability to decrease and resist harmful urges and increase their awareness of healthy human behavior.

Accountability

Each youth will be empowered to overcome denial and accept responsibility for past behavior, thus realizing that they have the ability to make appropriate choices.

Clarification

The therapist assists the youth in understanding the impact of their behavior on others and clarifying their responsibility to those affected by poor choices.  Youth engaging in a process of restoration that may include joint therapy sessions with your family or those hurt by the youth’s behavior.

Empathy development

Each youth will increase and enhance their awareness, sensitivity, and caring toward others.

Personal Enrichment

Each youth will develop relationship boundaries, clarifying values, enhancing maturity, understanding human sexuality, manage anger, understand grief, resolve substance abuse issues, and improving social and relationship skills.

Relapse Prevention Planning

Each youth will develop techniques and coping strategies for managing unhealthy impulses so that you are prepared to function safely and effectively in the TRTC community and in a future, less structured mainstream community.

Family Involvement and Support Cultivation

We will promote the healing process with weekly family contact by a therapist.  These sessions are crucial in maintaining your progress during his stay at the program and after you leave.  Family retreats are offered four times a year for all the young men and their families.
